We cannot grow Alaska's economy without providing for the development of workforce training and education programs.
We must consider all industry needs as we implement training and education programs.
We must collaborate with the private sector to address the current workforce shortages including oil and gas, construction, mining, building and labor trades, tourism, hospitality, and retail.
We must foster programs to strengthen our public sector workforce. We must create an environment where our public employees are appreciated; where new hires and promotions are made on merit rather than politics; and where there will be investment in career training, new technology, and repairing aging facilities.
I am committed to fair negotiations and will always honor negotiated agreements, and defend them before the Legislature and in the court of public opinion.
