Transportation

Motorcycle

Transportation is a basic service that the State must provide and it is vital to our economy. Expanding and improving our transportation system is the cornerstone of economic growth. It is also an important means to improving the quality of life for all Alaskans.

More specifically, this basic government service requires solutions throughout the State.

  • In Anchorage, it means new and improved roads so that the frustrations of traffic congestion are eliminated.
  • In Southeast, Southwest and Prince William Sound it also means an effective well run ferry system guided by common sense not politics.
  • New access roads and increased funding for road service areas is critical for the communities in Interior Alaska and the Kenai Peninsula.
  • In the Mat-Su Valley, it means staying ahead of a growing population to create a well-designed and efficient road system to continue the systematic development of the area.
  • In our coastal and rural Alaskan communities, it means improved airports, roads, and harbors.
  • Aviation infrastructure is critical in providing for the public health and economic well-being of our remote communities as well as maximizing our urban area international trade opportunities.

As Governor, I will work with local municipalities, both large and small, to improve our road systems. In addition, I will work with our Congressional Delegation to prioritize Federal Highway Administration funding to maximize the benefits to all Alaskans.

I want to invest in the infrastructure necessary in both urban and rural Alaska which will attract new visitors, new industry and improve the quality of life for those already here.
