I believe prosperity and opportunity have to be available to every Alaskan.

I will build on our economic progress and get the gas line built.

We need to grow small businesses, not government. I believe small business is the backbone of the economic development. There is much we can do to improve the climate for job creation by this sector of our economy. Most new jobs are created by the thousands of small businesses we have in Alaska.

Our Constitution requires that we use our resources "for the maximum benefit of its people".

Alaska's policymakers must insist on an oil and gas tax regime that is fair to Alaska and encourages development. We must create an oil and gas policy that results in greater investment, increased oil and gas development, more jobs, and more revenues to our State treasury.

Mining and timber development must be competitive by allowing access to our lands and providing infrastructure including roads and power generation.

Our commercial fishing industry must be managed for growth and sustainability while offering a quality product to compete in a worldwide market. We must promote our Alaskan wild-stocks. The sport-fishing industry regulations must address the needs of small businesses providing opportunities to Alaska's visitors while providing Alaskans the right to enjoy this traditional recreation. The State should do everything it can to encourage value added processing of our natural resources.

Tourism is an important renewable resource that provides good jobs and is an important source of economic growth.
